Caribbean Life: Behind the Scenes

IMG_4073Caribbean Life season two debuted New Year’s Day on Home and Garden Television (HGTV).  We were elated to be a part of the show again this season, as the exclusive real estate agents for the U.S. Virgin Islands.  Here are some fun facts from the filming experience and answers to questions we often receive.

St. Croix Episodes

Four episodes were filmed on St. Croix for season two.  One was the show’s season debut on New Year’s Day, while the second premiered January 4.  A third episode is scheduled to debut January 18 and a fourth is to be announced (filming pictured).  Check our Facebook events page for air times.

Real Estate Agents

This season, both Chris and Kerri Hanley are featured on the show guiding clients through the home-buying process, each filming two respective episodes.  Season one only Chris was filmed for both episodes, which featured St. Croix residents The Sommer Family buying a home and a condo purchase by Corinne Farinola and Patrick Kralik.

Filming Dates

Filming took place in July 2014, one of the hottest months on St. Croix!  This unfortunately meant lots of dead grass and the island’s foliage not looking its best.  But the HGTV crew were troopers in the heat!

Each episode required two days of filming, one with the clients and real estate agents and one without for b-roll footage.  This presented an interesting challenge for the homeowners, as nothing could be touched between filming days one and two.  Luckily, most properties on the show were unoccupied at the time of filming.

The production team required quite a few people and lots of equipment.  This included the show’s executive producer, assistant producers, several cameramen and a sound specialist.
