Culinary Competition Thrives on St. Croix

If you’re an expert in the kitchen, you will be in good company on St. Croix. Several competitions exist throughout the year including cook-offs for ribs, chili, kallaloo / gumbo, and hot sauce. The most anticipated week of the year for foodies is the St. Croix Food & Wine Experience week held in April annually since 2000.

A recent Caribbean Life episode on Home and Garden Television (HGTV) filmed on St. Croix featured a couple, The Desimones, leaving the states to open a restaurant on-island.  They were assisted by Kerri Hanley in their home search.

Chili Cook Off
The annual chili cook-off is a fundraiser for United Way. It is historically hosted in August at the Divi Carina Bay all-inclusive resort.

Rib Cook Off
The annual rib cook-off is a fundraiser for Krewe de Croix, which hosts the annual Mardi Croix event on the North Shore and the Christiansted dog parade on the boardwalk. The event is usually held in September and the location varies by year.

St. Croix Food & Wine Experience

The St. Croix Food & Wine Experience has been rated one of the top ten food and wine festivals in the world by Forbes Travel.  What started from one event, A Taste of St. Croix, has grown into a week of events over the last 15 years.  This year they have added an Icing on the Cake decorating class at The Buccaneer, which will be taught by Duff Golden from Ace of Cakes on Food Network.

The week kicks-off with Cuisine on the Green at Carambola Golf Club, a course designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr.  Golfers and non-golfers alike can take a golf cart or walk hole-by-hole.  Every other hole features a restaurant / caterer offering a cuisine tasting and beverage pairing.
