When people first relocate to St. Croix, one of the first things they want to find are the restaurants where residents dine.  Here are a few favorites for dinner in the town of Christiansted:

Galangal

Walk into the most impressive indoor dining atmosphere on St. Croix, complete with a gold ceiling.  If you like thai food, you’re in for a treat.  The proprietors of Galangal fly to Thailand every summer to bring back authentic curry powder and other spices.

The menu and specials go beyond traditional thai to also incorporate fresh, locally-caught seafood.  Don’t miss the tuna appetizer, massaman curry entree and flour-less chocolate cake for dessert.

The wine list is extensive and features bottles you can’t find elsewhere on-island, including a special selection of wines shipped directly from Germany.

Dashi

For sushi lovers, Dashi is the place to be.  Don’t be surprised to see fresh fish being delivered straight from the boats on the adjacent Christiansted boardwalk.  Enjoy a modern, quaint indoor dining area or opt to sit in the open-air courtyard, which generally has live music on the weekends.

Be sure to ask if there’s fresh wahoo and if so, order lots of it.  If raw isn’t your thing, the hot food menu is equally impressive.  Among their traditional maki sushi rolls try the Dashi, Grateful, Maeve Juliette, Mother of All and Spryte.

If you like saki, you’ll be in good company.  If not, let the talented bartenders mix you a Cruzan concoction.  They don’t disappoint.

Savant

If you’re seeking an eclectic menu, Savant is the right choice for dinner.  With just a few tables tucked inside, most opt for the outdoor dining space, surrounded by beautifully etched coral /stone walls.  Look like rain?  An authentic sail will be whisked over to keep diners dry.

Savant truly takes advantage of all that is grown on-island, so when the menu says things like “fresh arugula,” they mean it.  Among the appetizers, try the chargrilled baby calamari and chicken lollipops.  On the entree menu, try their famous fajitas with catch of the day or indulge in the stuffed filet mignon.
