Independence Day On-Island

Fireworks over the Ocean

The St. Croix community is abuzz with excitement for the July 4 holiday tomorrow . . .

Celebration Locations

Each year island residents look forward to an outstanding firework display in Frederiksted, on the island’s west end.  Firecrackers are set off from the cruise ship pier and make beautiful reflections in the ocean water below.  Most residents line Strand Street to watch the show.  The fireworks may be seen from the beaches south of Frederiksted near Cottages by the Sea and Sandcastle on the Beach Hotel.  North of town Teres Veho, Rainbow and Butler Bay beaches are also popular locations to watch the show, have a cookout or bonfire.  Boat owners generally anchor nearby to enjoy the show from the water.

Celebration Times

Vendors on Strand Street in Frederiksted will open and music will start at 3 p.m.  The firework show starts promptly at 8 p.m. (not on island time!).  Be prepared for traffic traveling east after the show (the one and only time each year there is notable traffic on St. Croix).

Arts & Entertainment

A reggae and jazz concert will take place in town with a sound stage on Strand Street in Frederiksted.  Many local vendors will have tents with crafts, toys and handmade jewelry for sale.

Food & Beverage

Most tent vendors on Strand Street in Frederiksted will be selling food and drinks.  Be sure to try a pate and Johnny Cake.  Cruzan Rum drinks will flow as usual, but for a delicious non-alcoholic option, try a Peanut Punch.  Generally restaurants in town are also open, such as Polly’s at the Pier and Blue Moon Cafe.  Those not watching in town often bring coolers to the surrounding beaches.

Host Organization

The Frederiksted Economic Development Association (FEDA) puts on the firecracker display and hosts the aforementioned concert.
