Island Homes with Pools

pool-view-1024x683Many newcomers to St. Croix are surprised to find that many condominium complexes, mid-range and high-end island homes include in-ground pools. What’s the need when the ocean is right there? Here are the top reasons to have a pool on your property in St. Croix:

Nothing beats a pool in your backyard when you have little ones. While time at the beach is great, many St. Croix children enjoy swimming in their home pools multiple times a day, every day of the year. It’s a great way for little ones to become fishes (very comfortable swimming and safe around water) from the start.

Due to the obvious reason of tropical weather year-round, there are no indoor swimming pools on St. Croix. Even the pools at Beeston Hill Fitness Center and Good Hope Country Day School are outside. So if you like to swim laps to stay fit, it’s nice to do so in the comfort of your own home.

Nothing beats a party around the pool. From a casual weekend cookout to a formal holiday dinner, a party poolside is always an upgrade. Whether you float candles and flowers in the water for ambiance, or just throw your friends then at the end of the night, everyone loves a pool party.

During a couple months of the year (mainly July through September) the island does get a bit hotter. While the temperature still hovers in the late 80s and early 90s, the humidity increases and winds calm down. It is during these months that many island residents are especially grateful for their pools. Because of the ideal year-round weather, the majority of homes on-island are open-air and do not have central air-conditioning to save power. While open-air living is refreshing the majority of the year, for the warmer months and during the heat of those days, pools are great to have.
