Rainy Day Activities for Families

Family on beach with umbrellaWhile St. Croix residents are spoiled to nearly perfect weather year-round (typical forecast is 88 degrees and sunny with a 10 percent chance of rain), on a few days of the wetter months (August through November) it really pours.  Get your galoshes out!  For those days, here are some great activities to keep your family entertained:

Crab Races

In the early evenings on Monday’s, Wednesday’s and Friday’s, crab races with Tito and Sue are a surefire hit with the kids.

Movie Theater

The Caribbean Cinema on St. Croix at Sunny Isle Shopping Center mid-island is a great activity option.  Especially if you’re accustomed to the insane ticket and concession prices in the states, this place will be a nice change (as of November 2014 an adult ticket costs $7).  The lobby includes a couple of arcade games to keep children entertained if you arrive early.

Check out Tropical Ten Pins Bowling Center in the Sion Farm area.  Look for signs on south shore road just east of the oil refinery.

Ping Pong

The Links at Divi Carina Bay All-Inclusive Resort includes an indoor activity center with ping pong and a few arcade games.

With public libraries on King Street in Christiansted and Strand Street in Frederiksted, every member of your family is bound to find something good to read.  The Florence Williams Library in Christiansted has a dedicated children’s room.

Connected to Kmart West on Queen Mary Highway is Sunshine Mall.  Though they’re down to just a handful of stores (major tenants currently include Barry University and a CrossFit Gym), it is a nice air-conditioned, enclosed space to let the kids run around.  Stores include Payless Shoe Source.
