For anyone who has lived on St. Croix in recent years and partaken in the social scene, you know the name Derek Shupe.  Most recently, he served as manager and well-known bartender at Fort Christian Brew Pub.  He now has his own place, simply called Shupe’s on the Boardwalk, at 39 Strand Street in Christiansted.  The restaurant serves food from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Location History

For islanders who remember Stixx, Shupe’s has taken over that location.  A few years ago, it was briefly open as John Eddie’s Lowlife Bar & Refuge.  The positive part of this quick turnaround was a beautiful renovation of the two-story bar / restaurant.

Menu

Shupe is keeping it simple with hand-ground burgers and hand-cut french fries, which have already been well received.  On reviewer compared the burgers to Five Guys, a famous stateside burger chain.

Opening

A soft opening in early October was followed with a Halloween party October 30.  The restaurant / bar was fully open for business November 6, according to the business’ Facebook page.

Upcoming Events

Stop by and check out Shupe’s on the Boardwalk at Thanksgiving Jump-Up this Friday, November 27 starting at 6 p.m.  This will be the ideal location for watching the upcoming Christmas Boat Parade, taking place this year on Saturday, December 12 beginning at 6 p.m.

Check the business’ Facebook page for happy hour specials.  It looks like they will regularly have live music from local favorites like Kurt Schindler.
