St. Croix Music Scene

Playing the guitar

The St. Croix music scene is impressive and eclectic for a small island.  This is partly because some professional musicians spend high tourist season on-island and off-season in the states.  But St. Croix seems to draw artistic free spirits, so talent abounds throughout the year.

Steel Pan

Naturally you would expect to find a thriving practice of steel pan on a Caribbean island and St. Croix doesn’t disappoint.  Go see local artists like Denzil Burroughs and Bill Bass.

If you want to really be blown away, listen to Rising Star Steel Orchestra or another large group of young steel pan musicians (many perform at Jump-Up festivities and all compete in the annual carnival parade).

Individual Artists

Two talented musicians not to be missed on St. Croix are Guitarist Steven Katz and Violinist Brian Silber.  You will often find them performing at island restaurants and bars like Dashi or Deep End, so check their respective schedules.

Big Bands

Xpress Band and others have great local followings for good reason.  One great place to see many of them perform is on-stage at the Divi Carina Bay Casino on St. Croix’s east end.  Check the casino entertainment calendar for more info.

Music Events

Jazz in the Park takes place in Christiansted one Friday per month.

eat @ cane bay hosts a reggae brunch on Sunday’s with live music from 3 p.m. to sunset (off-season music is monthly).

Renaissance St. Croix Carambola Beach Resort & Spa hosts its pirate’s buffet every Friday night.  Entertainment includes a band followed by a DJ, plus a performance by moko jumbie stilt dancers.

Check the St. Croix Events Calendar and for current music event info.
