St. Croix is blessed with a population of giving spirits.  Home to a particularly high number of 501-c3 status organizations per capita, there always seems to be another person or group on-island going above and beyond to help those in need.  Here are just a few outstanding organizations in Christiansted to consider volunteering with or donating to this Christmas:

Lighthouse Mission

The Lighthouse Mission is located in downtown Christiansted in the Times Square area.  It is a faith-based community service center which has become a refuge for the homeless.  They serve meals, provide clothing / toiletries and more to those in need.  The mission often partners with local churches and groups like boy scout troops for community outreach.

Women’s Coalition

The Women’s Coalition of St. Croix provides programs, services and advocacy for victims of domestic violence.  They offer 24-hour emergency services including shelter to remove women and children from dangerous domestic situations.  One of their primary means of fundraising is Closet-to-Closet, a second hand store at which they sell donated clothing and goods.

Boys & Girls Clubs

The Boys & Girls Clubs of the U.S. Virgin Islands have a mission to enable all young people to reach their full potential as thriving, contributing citizens of the community, especially youth coming from disadvantaged circumstances.  The outreach toward this goal includes after-school programs including sports and performing arts.  Children ages seven to seventeen can take part in activities to direct their time and attention to positive, character-building experiences.

Animal Welfare Center

Giving a voice to our furry friends who cannot speak for themselves, the St. Croix Animal Welfare Center takes on the awesome task of acting as the island’s animal control, rescue and more.  Fundraising takes place at holiday events and year-round at The Blue Mutt on Company Street and the Flea Market (at Basson Triangle just west of town).
