St. Croix Sees Movies Sooner at Sunny Isle

Part of living in paradise is sacrificing a few modern conveniences now and then.  But for movie buffs, that’s not one of them living on St. Croix.  Thankfully the movie theater at Sunny Isle Shopping Center (mid-island) is one place not on island time.

In fact, island residents actually get to see new release movies a day earlier than the U.S. mainland in some cases (typically showing a Friday new release on a Thursday).

The other perk?  Your ticket costs a whopping $7 (cash only).  Even with concessions, you’ll be hard pressed to spend more than $20 on movie date.  And forget the ridiculous lines of a stateside theater on the weekends.  The line is never more than a few people on St. Croix and I’ve never heard of a show selling out.

After being acquired by Caribbean Cinemas in recent years, the six screen theater at Sunny Isle underwent renovations.  So you can expect a similar theater to one on the U.S. mainland, with arcade games in the lobby, etc.  Another plus for families with young children is the playground right outside the front doors (sheltered from the parking lot).  The movie theater is attached to the shopping center which includes Kmart, Office Max / Depot, Champs Sports, and Foot Locker.
