St. Croix to Host First Annual Restaurant Week: Dine VI

DINE VIWho: The U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Tourism is spearheading this week of events (actually 10 days to be exact, because there’s too much great food on-island to cram into just seven!).  They have named the extended week Dine VI.

What: A week of events celebrating culinary excellence on St. Croix.  Major events will include:

  • Food Learn – Seeking to educate youth about the farm-to-table concept.  This will be hosted on-site at a farm and include tasting of a multi-course meal made with fresh, local ingredients.
  • Frederiksted Waterfront Entertainment and Food Truck Festival – Joining the trend of food truck festivals across the U.S. mainland, this event will highlight St. Croix’s best vendors on-the-go.  The atmosphere will be lively as local musicians provide the entertainment.
  • Food Cruise – Decide for yourself which is the best rum on-island, with stops at both the Cruzan Rum and Captain Morgan distilleries, including tours and tastings.  Then on to three mid-island restaurants to sample delicious cuisine.
  • Gospel Brunch – Bridging several venues, this event will include traditional Sunday music and munchies.  Entertainment will feature local gospel choirs.
  • Feast Christiansted – Working in tandem with the Christiansted Retail and Restaurant Association, this will be similar to a Jump-Up with a focus on music and local flavors.  Look for bartending demos as well.

Where: Locations vary by event, from food trucks in Frederiksted to feasting in Christiansted.

Why: To show the world what the St. Croix culinary scene has to offer.  The Department of Tourism hopes to attract many foodies to attend from off-island, especially writers who cover culinary / travel beats.

When: Wednesday, October 28 to Sunday, November 8, 2015 (times vary by event)
