St. Croix seems to draw artistic personalities. The first time you see a show at Caribbean Community Theater, you will be blown away by the amount of talent in this small island community. It is a beautiful blend of artistry fostered among native islanders and creative spirits who have relocated to St. Croix.

There are always art shows happening, often held at Canegata Community Center or the Caribbean Museum Center for the Arts in Frederiksted. Be sure to see the wonderful photography at Art Thursdays in Christiansted. Here are some great outlets to explore your artistic side on island:

Caribbean Community Theater
Located in Orange Grove (behind Pueblo Golden Rock), this theater founded in the 80s has been a long-standing community resource for plays, musicals and children’s theater workshops. Whether you’re interested in being on the stage or behind the scenes, there’s a role for everyone who wishes to volunteer. Musicals are the biggest fundraiser for CCT every year. They generally audition for them in November and take to the stage in February. Other fundraising events occur throughout the year, so there’s always an opportunity to support the theater.

The Palleteers
A group called The Palleteers exists on St. Croix for those who enjoy painting. They meet on a weekly basis and work with a variety of mediums. One of many collaborative projects they do is a Christmas tree for the St. George Botanical Garden annual holiday gala. The group traditionally covers the live tree in tiny hand-painted canvases, which generate a large donation at the fundraising auction.

The Blue Mutt
Located on Company Street in Christiansted, The Blue Mutt exists to raise funding for the St. Croix Animal Welfare Center. An art studio/gallery is attached to the store, and regularly hosts art classes. Instruction is offered in a variety of mediums including painting and mosaics.
